How to stop water siphonage from your washing machine

How to fit a washing machine waste pipe

If your washing machine's waste pipe isn't connected correctly, you may encounter several problems. These include water siphoning from the machine during washing, difficulties draining your machine, and inadequately rinsed laundry. Understanding how to properly fit, connect, clean, and unblock a washing machine waste pipe is crucial knowledge for homeowners purchasing a new washing machine or moving to a new house.

How to stop water siphonage from your washing machine?

If your Beko washing machine is having problems removing or retaining water from the drum, you should check that the drainpipe is correctly set up, as if not, this can lead to water siphonage. Here's how to check your drainpipe:

  1. Locate your washing machine's drainpipe and the standpipe the wastewater flows into. Please note washing machines are heavy, be careful when lifting and moving. We strongly recommend you have someone assist you when lifting, tilting, and moving your washing machine.
  2. Make sure that the drain hose has not been inserted too far into the waste pipe. The maximum should be 15cm inserted; otherwise, a vacuum may form, which can cause siphonage.
  3. The drain hose should be connected to the standpipe at the correct height for it to work properly. Ensure the highest point of the water drain hose is a minimum of 40cm and a maximum height of 100cm from the floor.

How to unblock a washing machine waste pipe?

A blocked waste pipe can prevent your washing machine from draining correctly. If you suspect a blockage, start by disconnecting the drainpipe from the back of your washing machine. Be prepared to catch any water that may spill out when disconnecting the pipes.

There are several methods to unblock a waste pipe. If the blockage is visible, you can use a pair of pliers to carefully pull it out, taking care not to damage the pipe. If the blockage is not visible or reachable, you can try using a combination of hot water, vinegar, and baking soda to dissolve or dislodge it.

If you're still experiencing issues and are unable to resolve them, please contact Beko's Customer Care team at 0333 207 9710 for assistance. How to clean a washing machine waste pipe?

While your washing machine's waste pipe typically doesn't require regular cleaning, you may need to do so if you notice your machine isn't draining properly. You can do this by detaching the pipe and running hot water through it, similar to the process for unblocking it. A blockage in the waste pipe can lead to stagnant water, causing your washing machine to smell.
